Amy CarringtonAmy Carrington

Director, Leadership Development Commerce Lexington, Inc.

Originally from Mt. Sterling, Kentucky, Amy graduated Magna Cum Laude from Samford University in Birmingham, Alabama with a Journalism and Mass Communication degree. She then completed an Honours Degree at Victoria University in Wellington, New Zealand studying as a Rotary Ambassadorial Scholar. Upon returning to Kentucky, Amy began her career at Georgetown College’s Graves Center for Calling & Career. In 2008, Amy developed the Global Scholars Program, a Program of Distinction at Georgetown College, serving as its Executive Director for three years.

While working full-time, Amy completed her Master’s degree in Community and Leadership Development at the University of Kentucky. She finished Commerce Lexington’s Leadership Lexington Program in June 2011 and joined the Commerce Lexington staff as Director of Leadership Development two months later. Amy enjoys travel, reading, arts and exercising. She serves on the Lexington Forum Board and volunteers for Junior Achievement. Amy is very family oriented and loves to tell funny stories about her three young nephews under the age of seven.

Jessica TretterJessica Tretter

After graduating from the University of Kentucky in 2004 with degrees in both Finance and Accounting, Jessica began her career in financial services working as both a banker and an investment representative at local bank. She joined LPL Financial in early 2011, determined to grow her business as an independent advisor while at the same time maintaining her commitment to the numerous Lexington-area charitable organization to which she gives her time.

Jessica sits on the American Cancer Society’s Leadership Council and chairs their signature fundraiser in Fayette County, Relay For Life. She serves on the board for the Lexington Clinic Foundation and the Lexington Humane Society and takes an active role in several committees of both organizations. Jessica is a graduate of Commerce Lexington’s Leadership Lexington program and is currently participating in the 2013-2014 Leadership Central Kentucky class.
Jessica’s family, especially her nieces and nephews, are most dear to her heart. She is a native of Louisville and visits often to spend time with the family and friends there. She loves hiking at Red River Gorge, needlepointing, reading a good book outside, and taking walks to the park with her dog, Darla.

Richard SanchezRichard Sanchez

A native of Lima, Peru, where he lived until the age of 18, at which point he moved to Puebla, Mexico, to study Communication Science at the University of the Americas. He moved to the U.S. at the age of 21 and continued his studies at Kentucky State University in Frankfort, Ky. Since arriving to Lexington, Richard has been very involved with the Spanish speaking community in many ways, including serving as the Director and Producer of the Spanish-language informative television show “Insight para Ti with Elisa Bruce” on the local cable channel. The show aims to keep people up-to-date on opportunities, services, and events available to the Spanish-speaking community in our city.

Richard also works for the Fayette County Public School system in the Migrant Education Program, assisting families of migrant farm workers with school enrollment for their children and other services. He is an avid soccer player and fan, and has coached several seasons for the North Lexington YMCA youth teams. Richard lives in Lexington with his wife, Jennifer Hubbard-Sánchez, a 2005 LYPA Rising Star Award Recipient, and their two children, Diego and Kaira. **Unfortunately Richard is traveling and cannot be with us tonight but his wife is here to accept the award on his behalf

Emily SandfordEmily Sandford

Emily Sandford is the blogger behind Authentically Emmie (authenticallyemmie.com), which has been featured in Shape Magazine, the New York Post, Prevention Magazine, Skirt! Magazine, Business Lexington, and more. She is also the owner of Authentically Social, a social media marketing consultancy for health/wellness, fashion/beauty, and lifestyle companies. Founded in 2012 after eight years of traditional brand management experience, her results-oriented social media, blogger outreach, and community management plans have earned Emily clients across the United States.

Emily was recently named Amazing Woman of the Year by Stiletto Women – a Forbes-ranked leadership-centric lifestyle company for modern working business women. She is an active member of the Junior League of Lexington and serves on the Board of Directors for AAF Lexington. She received her undergraduate degree and MBA from the University of Kentucky. **Emily unfortunately cannot be with us tonight as she is on a business trip but we will save her award for her

Stuart HurtStuart Hurt

Starting his undergraduate studies at Illinois Central College, and then transferring to the University of Kentucky; his parents’ alum; Stuart soon realized that Lexington Kentucky would be his home for many years to come.

Enrolling in the Interior Design program at the University of Kentucky, Stuart started to plant his roots by becoming involved in various campus organizations such as the Student Advisory Council, the student ASID chapter, in which he held Vice and Presidential roles. These organizations prompted him to reach out to the community, and through the years, he became involved in AVOL, American Cancer Society, Realtor Community Housing Foundation, LBAR Governance Board, Just Fund Kentucky, and his true passion, in which he dedicates many of his charitable hours to in honor of his mother, the Susan G. Komen Lexington Affiliate, where he currently sits as Board President serving 58 counties in central and Eastern Kentucky. Stuart received his CID (Certified Interior Designer) certification in which he is licensed to practice in 7 states throughout the United States.

Stuart has been awarded Cincinnati’s Interior Design Award for remodeled space under 3000 sqft, is a registered contractor with the state of Kentucky, has been featured for design excellence in, various publications such as TOPS, Kentucky Homes and Gardens, Keeneland Magazine, Country Living, Best in Business, Best in Bluegrass, Lexington Herald-Leader, House to Home, and currently writes for STORY Magazine and Kentucky Bride Magazine.
He is the owner of house; a retail storefront and Interior Design studio that has become a true adventure of community, trust and commitment.

Brandi BerrymanBrandi L. Berryman

Brandi works for the Lexington Downtown Development Authority and has been with them since 2009 working on a variety of planning, urban design, and development projects. She holds a Masters of Architecture from the University of Kentucky. Previous experiences include work at local design/build firm Gray Construction and work on affordable housing, university housing, and the world’s largest mall in Dubai with international architecture firm VOA Associates in Chicago.

After some time away from Lexington she returned to find a great fit for her design skills and passion for the community. Brandi is involved in a variety of community groups including Rotaract Club of Lexington (president), Habitat for Humanity (Young Professional Ambassador), Bluegrass Tomorrow Diversity Council, and AIA KY (associate member). Her work and her community involvement are aligned with her passion for creating a vibrant community and supporting Lexington as it continues to grow.

Katy RossKaty Ross

As a Navy brat, Katy grew up across the United States. Finishing high school at St. Mary’s Episcopal School in Memphis, TN, Katy attended Sewanee: The University of the South where she was the vice president of her sorority, Alpha Delta Theta, and captain of the Varsity Equestrian Team. Her love lifelong love of horses brought her to the University of Kentucky College of Law to study equine law. In private practice for several years, Katy is now an attorney for the Kentucky Department of Financial Institutions where she is responsible for drafting money transmitter legislation, statutory interpretation, advisory opinions and enforcement actions of depository institutions, nondepository institutions and securities.

Katy is a dedicated board member of the Junior League of Lexington and currently serves as the Membership Hospitality Chair of the League board. She is also a member of the board of directors of the Kentucky Hunter Jumper Association and believes that the horse industry and, in particular, the sport horse industry, is an integral, and up and coming, aspect of the culture and success of Lexington.

Davonna SaierDavonna Saier

A 2006 graduate of Georgetown College. She earned a master’s degree in Health Administration from the University of Kentucky College of Public Health in 2010. She has worked at Baptist Health Lexington for seven years, first as the Patient Advocate Coordinator and now as the Women’s Health and Spirit of Women Public Relations Coordinator. Davonna became a Certified Senior Advisor in 2011, and in February of 2012 founded Eldercare Ease, LLC., a small business providing consulting services for adult children of aging parents and others navigating the complex medical, caregiving and financial situations that arise as people age. She is also a professional singer, performing at weddings, memorial services, galas, receptions and special events.

Meredith LaneMeredith Lane

Meredith Lane is a REALTOR and radio personality in Central Kentucky. This year she was nationally recognized for her real estate work, being named REALTOR® Magazine’s 30 Under 30. Meredith is a member of The Lane Team at Keller Williams Bluegrass Realty, where she works with her mother selling homes. In addition, she is the host of the Interactive 9 at 9 on 104.5 the Cat, a weekday Top 40 countdown show. She was co-creator and editor of BG Magazine, a lifestyle publication for Central Kentucky young professionals until earlier this year and worked as an on-air reporter and producer for WKYT and LEX18 prior to getting into real estate. Active in the community, Meredith volunteers for a number of nonprofit and professional organizations. She is a 2012 graduate of Leadership Lexington and a 2011 recipient of the LYPA Rising Star Award.

Eli MertensEli Mertens

A graduate of Kansas State University is the president and associate publisher of TravelHost of the Bluegrass. Eli and his family, Paula wife of 25 years and twin sons Henri and Matthew moved from Miami, FL in 2000 where Eli was raised. He worked at the Miami Herald in advertising and as a marketing manager. In 2000 Eli received the Knight-Ridder Excellence award out of 22,000 employees. In 2000 Eli was recruited to the Lexington Herald Leader as the Consumer Marketing manager. In 2004 Eli left The Herald-Leader to start his own business, publishing TravelHost. In 2012 Eli took his wood working passion and started his second business, Wood Art by Eli.

Eli is very active in the community serving as current, President of the Bluegrass Tourism and Marketing Association, Commerce Lexington Board Member, Co-Chair of the American Heart Association Auction Committee, Chair of the TravelHost Advisory Board, past board member of the Bluegrass Hospitality Association and Friends of the Library and just recently completed his 6th year as a Commissioner on the LFUCG Human Rights Commission. Eli is a graduate of the 2007 Leadership Lexington class.
